My days are packed. Jam packed. I’ve just gotten back home from a conference, am working on finalizing a new website for my company and am about to head out on several more work trips in the next few weeks. There simply isn’t enough time in my day. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but, my little sister is an artist. Days like today I’m a little envious of a job where one can stare at trees all day pondering life and color. But, alas, painting makes me anxious, and if I’m honest, I’d probably lose interest in said tree about thirty minutes into my day, so I’ll stick with what I’m good at.
Even when my days are completely filled with real work things, I still make time for little five minute breaks for myself. I find that interspersing a few of these into my days really helps with keeping my physical and mental energy up. Here are three examples of ways to treat yourself in a timely manner during your busy days. **spoiler alert, food (and specifically Philadelphia Bagel Chips & Cream Cheese Dips) plays a major role in these five-minute pick-me-ups in this season of my life** sorry I’m not sorry.
3. Leave your desk
Radical thought I know, but be bold and just do it. Grab yourself a tasty, easy-to-transport snack out of the fridge aka Philadelphia Bagel Chips & Cream Cheese Dips and leave your workspace. Leave your screens (i.e. Cell phones, tablets, etc.) if you can swing it and head outside. It’s springtime and if you’re lucky enough to have sunshine today then take advantage and soak up some quick vitamin D. Eat your snack, savor the creamy goodness, and maybe take a second to appreciate a random tree. Lol
2. Give your fur- babies your full attention
When work follows me home, it’s a struggle to keep my kitties out of the work zone. While it may be hard to limit it to 5 minutes, give in for just a little bit and play with the little fools and get in a few snuggles. On your way back to your computer or home office, grab yourself a portion controlled snack to munch on while you work. We all know portion control is KEY though, cause we’ve all had that struggle of emptying a party sized bag of something or other while mindlessly munching and working. #truth #youknowyouvebeenthere
3. Call a friend
I’m really grateful to have a few solid friends here in Vidalia with me, but sadly most of the women in my life live 5-10 hours away from me. While I try to schedule nice long catch-ups with them as often as I can, sometimes it’s really nice to take a quick break and chat with one of them about absolutely nothing as if they were here with me. It’s amazing how quickly my day can be brightened just by hearing one of their voices and laughing a little with them. And, while I swear I’m not always eating, I am the unabashed queen of multitasking so go ahead and take this moment to get in a good snack break with a pack of Philly Multigrain Bagel Chips & Strawberry Cream Cheese Dip. Cause, why not? (There are both sweet and savory varieties, but the strawberry just happens to be my personal fave. By all means, though, follow your own taste buds).
When you’re working long hours on end, you have to take the time to fill yourself back up, and we all know Social Media just doesn’t cut it. We’ve all wasted five minutes easily on pointless internet videos or scrolling through posts that add nothing to our lives. I want to encourage you to be intentional with your breaks. Rest your mind from the pressures that are weighing on you. Feed your soul with the company that makes you happy and refuel your body with tasty snacks that are something more than a greasy bag of potato chips.
Treat yourself and keep up the hustle ladies! You’ve got this!
